Principal FPGA Engineer (Remote Atlanta Metro area)

How You’ll Help Us Connect the World:
As a member of our Hardware engineering team for our Broadband Networks group, this role will focus on design and development of products that include headend DOCSIS equipment, Cable Modem Termination Systems and remote devices for delivering cable services (video and data) and telephone service on the cable and 5G.

Our development activities include new designs, derivative designs, functional and performance improvements to existing products.

We encourage our engineers to contribute towards design and verification of dense and high-speed FPGAs within a local team based environment and in co-operation with teams based in other locations.

Our teams also work on FPGA system integration by collaborating with software and system quality assurance teams, support and work in conjunction with an architecture team to assess and scope new product features.

Our developers independently resolve technical problems, initiate design changes, provide engineering support to assess customer needs and tackle field issues.

Our team is encouraged to generate required product development documentation like functional specifications and detailed design documents.

Participate in source code control and software release activities as required.

Required Qualifications for Consideration:
* Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or an equivalent field
* 12+ years design experience in dense FPGA or ASIC technology, preferably in the telecommunications industry.
* Strong understanding of FPGA and/or ASIC design principles and techniques applied to development on dense and sophisticated FPGA architectures.
* Experience with FPGA design tools like Xilinx Vivado or Altera Quartus, and simulation/verification tools like Mentor Questa Sim or Synopsys VCS.
* Experience in RTL coding (VHDL, Verilog, System Verilog)
* Laboratory use of high-speed spectrum analyzers, logic analyzers and related tools.
* Experience with source code control as well as version tools such as Rational ClearCase.
* The ability to multi-task and work independently with good verbal, written, and presentation skills.

You Will Excite Us If You Have:
Familiarity with advanced FPGA technology, including MPSoC and networking protocols such as Ethernet, IP, MPEG2, etc.

Other coding/scripting (e.g.

C, C++, SystemC, MATLAB, TCL, Perl, etc.) Practical experience with high speed interfaces such as 10G Ethernet and implementing internal high bandwidth streaming interfaces.

A working appreciation of embedded processor architectures and soft micro-processor cores that works with programmable logic for the implementation of dense high-speed designs.

An understanding of basic DSP techniques and modulation schemes including QAM and OFDM.

A strong algorithmic ability and a background in modeling tools like LabVIEW or MATLAB.

Ability to present project status, issues, and requirements both verbally and in writing.

Conduct technical presentations/demonstrations as needed.
